In observance of World No Tobacco Day, Assabah Arts and Science College, Valayamkulam, organized a comprehensive awareness campaign aimed at educating students and the local community about the perils of substance abuse. The extensive program was jointly spearheaded by the college’s National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit 240, the Anti-Narcotic Cell, and the 'Unarvu' Counselling Centre. The official inauguration of the event was conducted by Ms. Faseela, the 12th Ward Member of Alamcode Panchayat, who highlighted the critical need for grassroots-level intervention and community awareness in combating tobacco and drug addiction.
A major highlight of the observance was the official announcement of a new, free counseling initiative specifically designed to support individuals trapped in the vicious cycle of substance abuse. This welfare project was announced by the College Psychologist, Ms. Safeeha Sulaiman, who emphasized the institution's commitment to providing accessible mental health support and rehabilitation guidance. The service aims to offer a confidential and supportive environment for those seeking to break free from addiction.
Demonstrating their commitment to social responsibility, the student volunteers extended their campaign beyond the campus walls into the local community. They conducted a targeted awareness drive for shopkeepers and commercial establishments in the vicinity of the college. During this outreach, merchants were thoroughly educated on the severe legal consequences and penal provisions associated with selling tobacco and other intoxicants to students and minors.
The entire event was successfully executed under the leadership and coordination of Mr. Abdul Rahman P.(NSS Program Officer).Mr. Anandakrishnan (Anti-Narcotic Cell Convenor)
