GREEN OASIS PROJECT

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY GREEN OASIS PROJECT

Organized by the NSS Unit & Nature Club of Asabah Arts & Science College, Changaramkulam**
On the occasion of World Environment Day, celebrated on June 5, 2026, the National Service Scheme Unit and the Nature Club of Asabah Arts & Science College, Changaramkulam, jointly organized a unique and exemplary environmental initiative titled the "Green Oasis Project." The primary objective of this project was to transform a heavily neglected and overgrown public space in front of the Government PWD Rest House at Valayamkulam into a clean, beautiful garden. By targeting an area that had become an eyesore due to dense wild growth and plastic pollution, the initiative aimed to foster civic responsibility among the youth while promoting public health and environmental aesthetics within the local community.

The program officially commenced at 10:00 AM at the Rest House premises and was formally inaugurated by Ms. Faseela, the Ward 12 Member. The entire campaign was executed under the leadership and guidance of Mr. Abdul Rahman P. (NSS Programme Officer), Mr. Asif Gypsy (Nature Club Coordinator), and Sharath T. V. (Student Coordinator). During her inaugural address, Ms. Faseela highly commended the students for their proactive efforts, emphasizing that maintaining public spaces free of waste and wild growth is a collective duty. She noted that the active participation of the youth in this campaign serves as a powerful reminder of how vital community-driven action is for local environmental conservation.
Following the formal inauguration, student volunteers immediately transitioned into the execution phase, which involved rigorous manual labor. The targeted site had been abandoned for a long period, causing wild bushes, tall grass, and weeds to overtake the front yard. Volunteers systematically cleared the dense undergrowth and meticulously gathered the plastic debris and rubbish trapped beneath the vegetation, ensuring the entire area was completely cleared of non-biodegradable waste. Once the ground was cleared, the students tilled and prepared the soil, creating structured beds to plant a diverse variety of vibrant flowering plants.

The successful completion of the first phase of the "Green Oasis Project" marks a significant milestone for the student community of Asabah Arts & Science College. By transforming a littered wasteland into a beautifully landscaped garden, the volunteers delivered a resonant message to society regarding the importance of environmental preservation and sanitation. This distinct Environment Day celebration successfully demonstrated that meaningful, sustainable change is achievable through organized youth leadership and dedicated community service.
